A Flapper Tag

I had fun putting together this "Flapper" tag!

Stamps are from Artistic Outpost's Windows and Doors and Flapper Fashions.   I used my new Distress Stains to color the tag and gazebo: Peeled Paint and Broken China.   The gazebo with awning is from Windows and Doors.  All the other images are from Flapper Fashions including the decorative elements on the corners of the tag.  I use foam tape to pop up the gazebo.  The awning fastens flush to the tag at the top with the bottom on foam tape.   The Flapper, mounted with foam tape for more 3D, was colored with Copic markers.  I forgot to make note of the colors.  I used only a couple shades of red, skin tone and gray for the belt and shoes plus shading.
I added a pearl stick pin with a tiny flag with the year  on the gazebo top.   The flower that covers the tag hole was made with seam binding colored with Broken China Distress Stain.  I used a green piece of seam binding for the "leaf".

Ranger Distress Stains: Peeled Paint, Broken China
Ranger Archival Ink: Jet Black

A Great Masculine Card!

I used stamps from Gatsby by Artistic Outpost to create this masculine card.  I like the monochromatic color palette of brown tones.  I used Espresso ink for all the stamping.   The words are a little darker because I clear heat embossed them.  I like to do that for verses.  It just intensifies the color and adds a crispness to the words.  All the patterned papers are from Graphic 45, " A Proper Gentleman".  A perfect match for the stamps! I used dark brown mats to frame them all. I started this card with the man image and car.  I found the cork frame in my collection of bits & pieces.  It was cut with Spellbinders S4-308 Labels One SM #4 & 5 (#1 being the smallest).   I added a touch of color with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.  Have you tried the new Distress Stains?  I love how easy they are to use for coloring backgrounds.  It worked great on the cork.  A lot quicker than rubbing Distress ink onto it!    My final touch was the little checked bow tie....really a tiny bow!!!  That's my favorite part of the this card!

Happy Stamping!

Starting August 5th books will be permanently located at Brooklyn Art Library .

My Sketchbook became more than a "sketch".  Those of you who know me know I don't often do simple!  That definitely applied to my Sketchbook!  I chose the theme "In 5 Minutes" thinking I would do pages that had elements created in 5 minutes.  Not so for my book!  There are a few pages that I did quickly and others that I spent a lot of time!  See for yourself.......

Front Cover
The sketch book is 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and started with kraft color covers.    I removed many of the pages and glued my pages together for strength.

Since the theme was "In 5 Minutes", I chose to put a pocket watch on the front.  I stamped over the whole front cover with a numbers stamp from Tim Holtz and embossed it with various Distress embossing powders. I stamped the watch image from Tattered Angels on craft foil.  I trimmed around the outside with a scissors and cut the inside with a Spellbinders circle die template.  I added color with StazOn Jet Black ink and embossed lines into the foil.  I cut a duplicate of the watch from fun foam and glued it to the back for dimension.  There's a piece of acetate over the watch face to protect it.  I cut "5" and "MINUTES" from fun foam with foil stape stuck over it.   I've used StazOn inks to add color.  Finally, I added a chain and "altered" charm from Tim Holtz.

Inside Front Cover and First Page

Inside the cover I've stamped some swirls and sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer mists.
The first page has a vers from Artistic Outpost's Happiness set.  I glued a copper butterfly over the stamped one.  The leaf branch is from Spellbinders On the Vine Border Grand.  Lots of color added with Distress inks and Glimmer Mists.

Pages 2-3

Page 2 has lots of definitions stamped on it with a few swirls and "artist" across the bottom.  Again lots of Distress inks.

Page 3 has a clock from Tattered Angles.  The verse and city scape from Tim Holtz.  More Glimmer Mist and Distress inks.

Pages 4-5

Page 4 is covered with assorted watches and clocks.  The verse says "Time is priceless"

Page 5 features a verse "Take time to laugh, it's the music of the soul".  I've stamped music behind it. The frame was cut from craft foil and embossed.  Lots of different colors and background stamps across the page.

Pages 6-7

Page 6 has a circle city scape surrounded by embossed craft foil.

Page 7 and 8 are the center of the book.  I created the inside of the watch on these pages.  I cut many gears from craft foil glued to card stock.  They're fastened to a piece of acetate.  The back of the gears from page 8 can be seen on page 7.  This was a little tricky to keep the glue and foam adhesive from showing.  I colored the back of the gears with a metallic gold marker.  I cut a frame of gold craft foil with Spellbinders circle die templates.

Pages 8-9

Page 8 shows the other side of the gears framed with a circle of gold craft foil.

Page 9 has the world stamped in gold.   Embossed gold craft foil at the top and bottom of the page frame the circle.  I used adhesive to stick the craft foil to fun foam for dimension.  The raised foil fits around the gears on page 8 making the pages fit together when the book is closed.

Gears mounted on acetate

This photo of page 8 shows the see through effect of the gears on the acetate.

Pages 10-11

Page 10 features a verse stamped and framed.  I cut the frame with Spellbinders Labels Seventeen and Curved Rectangles out of gold pearlescent paper.  I used many different stamps from Tim Holtz on this page.  There are gold embossed designs on the corners of the page.

Page 11 has a unique heart on a chain.  This is a Zentangle creation of mine.  I added color around it with a Copic marker.  The frame was cut with 2 sizes of Spellbinders Labels Eleven out of gold pearlescent paper.
The verse and background swirls are stamps from Tim Holtz.

Pages 12-13

Page 12  has the verse "the journey awakens the soul" stamped in black and heat embossed with clear EP.  The little poem was stamped and the paper distressed to look vintage. It says:

"When we embrace the quiet times, we open our hearts to the gift and the profound purpose of the moment. Often this is when we discover the real beauty our souls are made of, the undaunted strength of our faith, and the wonderous miracle it is just to be alive."

Page 13 displays a stamped verse from Tim Holtz.  The frame was created with Spellbinders Labels Eighteen and Labels Four.  I think I rubbed ink over it and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  All the background stamping was with Tim Holtz' stamps and various inks.

Page 14 and Inside Back Cover

Page 14 has butterflies and grasses stamped over it.  I again stamped the butterflies on scrap cardstock, colored them with Distress ink and cut them out to glue on the page.   I hand wrote the various words on the strip of paper.  The verse at the bottom says "take time to enjoy the simple things".

On the inside of the back cover I glued a piece of paper on which I wrote some of my thoughts about this sketchbook.

Back Cover

Finally, on the back cover....the back side of the watch, of course!
I've embossed the craft foil over 2 shapes from Spellbinders Parisian Accents  and Parisian Motifs cut from lightweight chipboard.  I sanded the foil to show off the images.  I've added StazOn Jet Black ink to make the watch look old.  The cover itself has the same number background as the front cover stamped and embossed with Distress Embossing Powders and a touch of copper EP.

This Sketchbook was a journey in creativity!  I never intended to put so much time into it!  It just turned out that way.  I really enjoyed putting it together with whatever came to mind along the theme of "time".  Only fragments of it took me "5 minutes"!!!

I hope you've enjoyed it!  If you're interested in participating the Sketchbook 2012, go to Art House Co-op for more details.

Puttin on the Ritz

Some ladies of fashion from Artistic Outpost's Flapper Fashions!
These ladies are so fun to color with Copic markers!  I imagined them on a stage showing off their style when I created this card.
I used Spellbinders LF-246 Grand Labels Eleven to cut the stage frame.  It's really easy to do using 2 die templates aligned together to cut both edges at the same time!  I added dark brown dots with Viva Walnut Brown Paper Pen,  a great dimensional paint!  Love these paint pens!
The decorative Fleur de Lis at the base of the card was cut with Spellbinders S5-042 Fleur de Lis Doily Accents.  There are little dots of Walnut Brown Viva paint on it, too.   I added a narrow dark brown satin ribbon across the top.
The peach and dark brown pattern papers are from Graphic 45, Le Romantique.   I created the paper behind the ladies by repeatedly stamping with a decorative image from Flappers Fashion using Espresso ink.  I added Antique Linen Distress ink for shading.   Before I positioned the ladies and the sign "Puttin on the Ritz", I sprayed the whole card front with Ranger Perfect Pearls Gold mist.  It added a gold glimmer that you can't see in this photo.

Wishing you a great Saturday!  It seems like winter here as we got snow last night!  Brrrrr, it's cold, too!  A good day to be inside creating!

Lady in Brown

Can you tell I really like this image from Artistic Outpost's Gatsby?
She's so fun to stamp on glossy paper to look like a photo.  Then decorate and embellish!

Here, I've used a frame cut and embossed with Spellbinders Labels Seventeen.  It was cut from brown paper with ink over the embossed pattern.  There's a Spellbinders Labels Four die cut shape set at angle behind the frame.  It was cut from antique pearlescent gold paper, also embossed.
I"ve layered the frame over some lace (a thrift store find!) that I colored with various Distress inks.  I used a piece of cream cs behind it to show off the colors and pattern.  The card front is covered with paper from Grahpic 45.   A piece of sheer gold ribbon slips behind the frame and is knotted at the card edge.  I've added some sheer flower ribbon that I colored with  Distress Stain - Walnut Stain.
The finishing touch are some brown pearls strung along as if a string of pearls.
I hope you've enjoyed this Lady in Brown!

Have a super day!

Back Home!

I'm back from an incredible, awesome, fun trip to the Spellbinders DT retreat!!!  I'm missing everyone!  We had so much fun!  What an awesome, talented group of ladies!  I'm so honored to share this year with them all!

I came back with a carry-on suitcase full of products plus more in my checked bag from all the cross promotional and preferred provider companies!   Last night, I spread it all out on my spare bed....
.........what an incredible collection of product to use over this coming year!
And that doesn't include my Spellbinders die templates!  I only tucked in a few (at the top right of the photo).  See the rest below.
I came home with all these..........

I'm working on finding a home for them all!  I'll have to purge something to fit everything in!  What fun to look at it all as I put it away!

What an awesome trip and opportunity!  Thank you Spellbinders!  I'm honored to share this year with an incredibly talented DT!  Ladies, I miss you all!

Missing Fond Memories' workshop!

Hello all!

I'm still in Arizona at the Spellbinders Design Team Retreat!  I'm having a great time!

Today, I'm missing the Fond Memories Spring Workshop.  I think I've been at every one since the beginning.  For all you Fond Memories fans, I miss you!  Hope you're having a great day!  I know there are lots of great cards to create!

This is a card I created for the workshop.....

The one they're creating at the workshop is just a tiny bit different.
I've used the new Sprightly Sprockets from Spellbinders to cut all the gears!   They coordinate so well with Technique Tuesday's "Get It in Gear" stamp set!  I've used it for stamping the gears in the center as well as the verse.  The papers are from My Mind's Eye Stella and Rose.  The screw brads are from Creative Impressions.
Thinking about all of you at the workshop!

Happy Creating! -judy

Lost Generation Tag

This is a tag I created for Artistic Outpost with the new set, Gatsby.

I'm writing this post on my iPad which isn't very compatible with blogger. I suspect if I knew more, I could do better.
I usef the new Ranger Distress Stains to color this tag. So easy to quickly apply color! Same look and color as the Distress inks! I added just a touch of the Distress inks along the edge for shading. The man with verse and title are stamped and clear embossed. I used the leger stamp from Ephemeral Backgrounds to add interest to the background stamped with Vintage Photo. A quick tag to create!
I'm having a great time at the Spellbinders Retreat!! It's like Christmas with all the product we're receiving! It's been so fun to reconnect with Latisha, Kimberly and AJ who were on last year's team with me. We all sit together....perhaps not a good thing at times. Lots of laughing!!! An absolutely incredible experience!
Time to get ready for day 2!

Happy Creating! -judy

A new year on the Spellbinders Design Team!

Today is the first day of my 2nd year on the Spellbinders Design Team! Woohoo!!!
I'm so honored to be on this team again! Spellbinders is such a great company! Wonderful people and fantastic products!
I'm looking forward to meeting all the new mmembers on the new Design Team next week at a retreat in Arizona! Yes, I'll be flying to Arizona to spend 3 full days of playing and learning with Spellbinders products, getting to know all the new members and having FUN!!! It. will be so nice to see the other returning members: Latisha, AJ, and Kimberly! Reunion time for us!
This past year has been an incredible journey for me!  The Grand Calibur and new Grand Nestabilities die templates made their debut! They are so awesome for scrapbooking! Just think of all the new die templates that were released over the year...lots of "have-to-have" designs! I wonder what new and exciting products I'll get to work with this year!?! So exciting!  I'll share whenever I can!
I started a page of all my Spellbinders projects.
Here's a link to it:  http://judyhayesdesign.blogspot.com/p/spellbinders-projects.html
Blogger was not cooperating with how I wanted the photos to arrange so I only loaded a few.  I'll be adding more as I have time.  The page is listed under my blog title.  It will be easy to see all my project photos without going back through my blog!
Thanks for visiting!
